Understanding
Empty Leg Flights.
A considered opportunity when your plans align with an aircraft’s repositioning journey.
What is an
empty leg?
An aircraft may need to fly without passengers to reach its next booking or return from a charter. An operator may offer that sector to a client as an empty leg.
Availability, pricing and conditions vary for each flight. SESJETS can assess an opportunity against your plans and explain the arrangements before you proceed.
The route and departure window are usually tied to another journey. An empty leg may change or disappear if the underlying charter changes. It is generally a one-way opportunity; separate return travel may be needed.
Check the exact airports, timing, aircraft, passenger and baggage limits, price, payment and cancellation terms. Consider a backup plan if arriving at a fixed time is essential.
Share your preferred route and travel window. We can review available options and explain the conditions attached to a particular flight. Listings are subject to operator confirmation and are not a live inventory or booking guarantee.
Taking advantage of empty legs.
Why can’t an empty leg always be available whenever and wherever you wish to travel? These flights follow an aircraft’s existing commitments. Understanding how they arise helps you assess whether an opportunity suits your journey.
Opportunities emerge as plans develop.
Empty legs depend on confirmed aircraft movements and can appear at short notice, sometimes only a few days before departure. Operators may continue assessing other bookings before offering a repositioning sector. Availability can change if the underlying itinerary changes.
The route needs to fit your journey.
An aircraft must be travelling in a direction that works for your plans. An exact match of airports, date and time is not always available. Nearby airports or a different departure window may create more suitable options, subject to the operator’s schedule and approval.
Assess the complete charter price.
An empty leg may offer savings compared with a separately arranged charter, but there is no fixed discount. Aircraft type, routing, timing and operator terms determine the proposal. Additional positioning before or after your flight, airport charges and other requirements can affect the total price.
Keep dates, times and airports open.
Flexibility gives you more opportunities to consider. Share your preferred route, passenger party and travel window, including nearby airports you would accept. Contact us as your plans develop and check again closer to departure; a suitable flight may become available later.
For a fixed itinerary, plan around a dedicated charter.
If your journey requires specific departure times, a return flight or several stops, a conventional charter may offer a better fit than an empty leg.
Begin planning as soon as your itinerary is known. Earlier enquiries are particularly helpful for holiday periods, major sporting events and other busy travel dates, when suitable aircraft and airport arrangements may be more limited.
